Salem-Keizer Volunteers of the Month for February 2018

posted Feb 14, 2018, 10:41 AM by Salem Keizer

Volunteers Bob and Pat Wright are beloved by students, parents and staff at Bush Elementary School. We are very pleased to recognize the couple as our Volunteers of the Month for February 2018.

The couple has been volunteering together every Tuesday at Bush Elementary for the last 22 years. They were nominated for last night’s Salem-Keizer School Board recognition by Principal Monica Takata.

Bob is a retired engineer who worked for 30 years as a bridge designer for the Oregon Department of Transportation. Pat is a retired Salem-Keizer elementary school teacher who taught first and second grade for 20 years at Schirle Elementary and Hayesville Elementary.

As a former engineer, Bob is very good at math. He works with students learning their multiplication tables in fourth-grade and fifth-grade classes taught by teachers Margret Hill, Patricia Aguilera and Noah Hall.

Pat has helped out for several years in teacher Tanya Hauck’s kindergarten class working with students one-on-one teaching beginning reading, sounds, and reading readiness.

Bob says that anyone thinking of volunteering at Bush Elementary is in for a great experience.

“Whoever volunteers here can look forward to working with very good teachers, very dedicated people,” Bob said.

Pat agreed and said, “I appreciated volunteers so much when I was a teacher. It’s hard for a teacher to get to spend one-on-one time with students. Volunteers really make a difference.”

Thank you Bob and Pat Wright for making a difference at Bush Elementary School for more than two decades. It’s a sincere pleasure to honor such a wonderful couple as our Volunteers of the Month.
